Frequently Asked Questions — Salary Slips in India

How to generate a professional salary slip online?

Enter the annual CTC, select the pay month and year, fill employee details (name, ID, designation, department, PAN, bank), and company details. The tool automatically calculates Basic, HRA, PF, ESIC, and net pay. Click "Download / Print Salary Slip PDF" to get a print-ready payslip.

What details are included in the salary slip?

The salary slip includes employee name, ID, designation, department, PAN, bank account, date of joining; company name and address; month and year; working days and paid days; earnings (Basic, HRA, Medical Allowance, Conveyance, Special Allowance); deductions (PF 12%, ESIC 0.75%, Professional Tax); gross salary; total deductions; and net take-home pay in words.

Is this salary slip generator free to use?

Yes, completely free. No registration, no login, and no hidden charges. Generate unlimited professional salary slips and download them as PDF from any device.

Can I customise the salary structure?

Yes. Click 'Customise Compliance Cap Threshold Rules' to adjust Basic salary percentage, HRA percentage, Medical and Conveyance allowances, PF percentage, PF wage ceiling, ESIC ceiling, and Professional Tax amount. All changes reflect on the payslip immediately.

How does pro-rata salary calculation work?

Enter total working days for the month and the actual number of days paid. The tool automatically calculates pro-rata salary. For example: if working days = 30 and paid days = 25, salary is calculated as (25 ÷ 30) × monthly salary. Loss of Pay days are shown separately on the slip.

What is the standard salary structure in India?

A standard India salary structure includes Basic salary (typically 40–60% of CTC), HRA (40–50% of Basic), Medical Allowance (₹1,250/month), Conveyance Allowance (₹1,600/month), and Special Allowance (balance amount). Deductions include Employee PF at 12% of Basic, ESIC at 0.75% of gross (if salary ≤ ₹21,000), and Professional Tax as per state.

How is PF calculated on a salary slip?

Employee PF is calculated at 12% of Basic salary. If the Basic salary exceeds the PF wage ceiling (₹15,000 by default), PF is calculated on ₹15,000 only — i.e., ₹1,800 per month. You can set a different PF cap using the 'Customise Compliance Cap Threshold Rules' toggle. Employer PF contribution (3.67% of Basic) is not shown as a deduction on the employee's payslip.

How do I save or print the salary slip as a PDF?

Click 'Download Salary Slip PDF'. If using the browser print dialog, set Destination to 'Save as PDF', set Margins to 'None', and enable 'Background graphics' for a clean, print-quality PDF payslip ready to send or store.

Is this salary slip valid for legal or bank purposes?

This tool generates a professionally formatted salary slip for reference and HR use. For legal, bank loan, or visa purposes, salary slips should typically carry the official company letterhead, HR or authorised signatory details, and company seal where required. This tool is a free utility for quick payslip generation and should be reviewed against your company payroll records.

What is the difference between CTC and take-home salary?

CTC (Cost to Company) is the total annual expense a company incurs for an employee, including employer PF and ESIC contributions, gratuity, and other benefits. Take-home salary (net pay) is what the employee actually receives after all deductions — employee PF, ESIC, and Professional Tax — are subtracted from gross salary. CTC and take-home can differ by 15–25% depending on salary level and structure.
